About the studio

Midlands Arts Design Engineering

The Midlands built engines, bicycles, jewellery and canals. We work in the same spirit, at desk scale: understand the problem, design it properly, make it well.

The studio: brick walls, steel windows, a row of enclosed 3D printers and a long workbench
What we do

A design studio that also makes things

MADE is a technical design and printing studio. We help people who have a 3D file and need it made, and people who have an idea, a sketch or a broken part and need it designed first.

Our customers range from homeowners fixing an appliance and makers building a project, to inventors, product teams, workshops, architects and educators. Many of them have never used CAD. That's fine: explaining the options in plain English is part of the job.

We aren't a print farm. Every enquiry is reviewed by a person who thinks about how the part will be loaded, how it will be printed and whether printing is even the right answer.

Approach1:1You talk to the engineer

MADE is led by its founder, an engineer who designs and makes every part personally. That means the person who reviews your file is the person who models, prints and checks it.

How we work

  • Understand the job before quoting it.
  • Design for the process, so parts print reliably and last.
  • Write down scope, assumptions and costs, and stick to them.
  • Say no to work that isn't safe or isn't ours to copy.
